Sean Saint, Chief Executive Officer. Sean is responsible for assembling the corporate team and managing day-to-day operations of the Company. He has more than 15 years’ of engineering experience in medical devices and various startups. Sean is a Type 1 diabetic and well-known in the diabetes community.
Prior to starting Companion Medical, Sean worked as Director of Advanced Technology and Mechanical Engineer at Tandem Diabetes Care, Co-Founder and Vice President of R&D at Alure Medical, Engineering Manager at Dexcom, and Senior Engineer at Medtronic/AVE. Sean has 175 issued and pending patent applications.
Sean holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of California.
Mike Mensinger, Chief Technology Officer. Mike is responsible for strategic product development. Mike has more than 14 years’ of engineering experience in medical devices.
Prior to starting at Companion Medical, Mike held various positions at Dexcom. His 13-year tenure included time as the Director of Software Development. In that position, he led the mobile medical app and cloud software research and development teams. Mike brings a long list of successful diabetes projects, including Dexcom G5 Mobile – the first direct to phone glucose monitor, Dexcom Share – the first real-time remote continuous glucose monitoring system, the first CGM integration with Apple Health and the first approved class 3 Apple Watch app. Mike’s experience as a leader in diabetes software is invaluable in Companion’s pursuit of innovative solutions for diabetes.
Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering with a minor in Computer Science from the University of Delaware. Mike has more than 70 issued and pending patent applications.
Marty Holmquist, Vice President of Research and Design. Marty is a senior system and electrical engineer with extensive experience in product and project development, medical device development, and firmware and circuit design.
Marty is responsible for the technical development of Companion’s products and research and development team management. Before joining the company, he held engineering and management positions at medical device and aerospace companies. Marty and Sean partnered to develop technology that served as the basis for the first real-time continuous glucose monitor available on the market.
Marty holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota and is listed as the inventor on five diabetes patents.
Jasper Benke, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, and Clinical Affairs. Jasper is a medical device professional specializing in strategy development and meeting quality, regulatory, clinical, and business objectives.
Jasper has more than 18 years’ of experience in the medical device industry, including implementing U.S. and outside the U.S. regulatory strategy, FDA- and ISO- quality systems, and clinical program management for healthcare-related start-up companies.
Jasper holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
Collin Valentine, Vice President of Operations. Collin joined Companion Medical in 2017 and has served as Vice President of Operations since January 2019. He is responsible for leading Companion Medical’s Operations team overseeing process development, manufacturing, and supply chain.
Collin has over 20 years of experience in the medical device and biotechnology industries including Dexcom, CoreValve, and Obalon. He has been instrumental in launching several commercial products in the U.S. and internationally.
Collin holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
